- The first *Shrek 5* trailer has been released.
- Eddie Murphy's Donkey takes center stage in this early look.
- The animated film opens in theaters in June 2027.
Everyone's favorite hideous ogre and delusional donkey are finally reunited.
On Tuesday, DreamWorks and Universal released the first trailer for the long-awaited *Shrek 5* — yes, Donkey (Eddie Murphy), it's really happening!
"I need a makeover," the talkative sidekick declared. "Get my arms yoked and my back jacked, my abs abd-ed, maybe even tighten my badonkadonk."
Despite Shrek's (Mike Myers) resistance, the beloved duo are headed on "another whirlwind big city adventure." As the trailer reveals, that includes being thrown in prison, alongside Fiona (Cameron Diaz) and her and Shrek's two sons, Fergus (Marcello Hernandez) and Farkle (Skyler Gisondo). Maybe the harshest part of the punishment is Donkey singing The Police's "Roxanne."
Not spotted in the new look at the beloved animated franchise is Zendaya as Shrek and Fiona's daughter, Felicia.

Set for release on June 30, 2027, *Shrek 5* will arrive in theaters 17 years after the last installment, *Shrek Forever After*. Since the fourth film, there have been two *Puss in Boots* spinoffs.
*Shrek 5* is directed by *Shrek* veterans Conrad Vernon and Walt Dohrn. Vernon was on the *Shrek 2* directing team and has provided the voice for Gingy, a.k.a. the Gingerbread Man, while Dohrn worked on the last three *Shrek *films as a creative and played Rumpelstiltskin in *Shrek Forever After*.
