Mike Myers, Cameron Diaz and Eddie Murphy are heading back to the swamp for Shrek 5.

Universal Pictures dropped its first official trailer for the first Shrek entry since 2010 on Tuesday, June 16. The teaser showcases Murphy, 65, voicing his fan-favorite character Donkey as he excitedly monologues about his and Shrek's latest adventure, much to Shrek's (Myers, 64) displeasure. The teaser shows Shrek, Donkey and Fiona (Diaz, 54) as they adventure through a new city with the ogre couple's sons Fergus and Farkle, voiced by Skyler Gisondo (Superman) and Saturday Night Live comedian Marcello Hernández. The family even lands themselves in jail, during which Shrek yells at Donkey to stop singing when he belts out The Police's "Roxanne."

Little is known about the movie's story: a logline for the film simply describes Shrek 5 as "a thrilling, magical new comedy adventure from one of the most beloved global animated franchises of all time."

The Shrek franchise originated with the original 2001 film, which won an Academy Award for Best Animated Feature Film at the 2002 Oscars. Shrek 2 arrived in 2004, followed by Shrek the Third in 2007 and Shrek Forever After in 2010. Antonio Banderas' orange cat character Puss in Boots has received two spinoffs: 2011's Puss in Boots and 2022's Puss in Boots: The Last Wish.

The new Shrek 5 trailer also teased the return of franchise favorites like the Gingerbread Man (seen dancing with gumdrops attached to his backside) and an appearance from a seedy snowman who looks suspiciously like Frozen's Olaf. Missing from the trailer is Shrek and Fiona's daughter; the franchise announced in February 2025 that Zendayawill voice that character.
