Sharon Stone is opening up about being physically assaulted 10 years ago.

While speaking on the June 1 episode of The Person Who Believed in Me podcast, hosted by CBS correspondent David Begnaud, the Basic Instinct actress, 68, shared, "I don't know how much I can tell about this. I was hit from behind."

"I didn't really know 'til 10 years later what had happened to me because I woke up. I was unconscious on the floor. The two couches were sideways. The coffee table was all over the place. It was sort of upside down. Everything that had been on the coffee table was all over the floor and I didn't know how I got there," Stone, who declined to name her attacker, continued.

The Total Recall star explained that a decade later, the attack was brought up after she'd gone to see a doctor after experiencing problems with the back of her neck and her shoulders.

"I went to a clinic because I was having a lot of problems with the back of my neck and my shoulders were so sore and I went to a neck and spine clinic in Marina Del Rey and they had given me propofol and they'd done a lot of X-rays of my front and back and all this stuff," Stone recalled.

She went on, "They were going to do some kind of injections into what they thought was arthritis in my neck and shoulders, and they had done all these preliminary X-rays of my thoracic rib cage and my neck and my shoulders and my spine and the doctor came in and he's like, 'We're not going to be able to do this surgery.' "

"I was like, 'I don't know what you're talking about.' And he's like, 'Your thoracic rib cage is all fractured and scarred back together. It's clear that you were attacked and that what happened to you was a felony,' " Stone shared.

She said that her doctor urged her to report it, and she had a panic attack, even though she was still on propofol [used to help you relax or sleep before and during surgery or other medical procedures, per Mayo Clinic].

When asked who attacked her, Stone responded, "I am not going to say publicly, but I am going to say that we did report and we did do everything," adding, "I had the opportunity to press charges, but because it had been a decade and because I'm a public figure, I decided not to."

Stone said she's "quite certain" she knows who did it to her, but she's also "quite certain" she would have had "a hard time in court a decade later."

The actress added that she believes she would likely have had enough "circumstantial evidence to make sort of a case," but opted not to pursue charges because she "did not want that to be my legacy."

She said of whether she believed the attack to be domestic violence, "I'm not at liberty to say."

During the podcast episode, Stone also spoke candidly about her relationship with her father, Joseph Stone, telling Begnaud how she confronted him at age 14 about his abusive behavior.

As previously reported by PEOPLE, she described her father as empathetic and chivalrous despite their difficult past, saying they later became very close.

"My dad was quite a fantastic guy, super empathetic really. He was so sophisticated and tough and smart and cool," Stone told the podcast host.

However, she insisted that he wasn't always gentle. "He was harder on me than he was my younger brother. Finally, I confronted him when I was 14, because he was a hitter," she said.

Stone continued, "Yeah, he would throw me down a flight of stairs and then the belt would come off. You know, that belt would come off and then I would get a real whipping, you know? And finally, at 14, I told him off. I really told him off."

The Oscar nominee recalled, "I remember specifically that he was yelling at me to come down those stairs, right? God damn now. And I came down the stairs like the Queen of France, like one step at a time, and then walked up to his face and said, 'Why? Do you need to hit me some more to feel like a man? Is that what's going on here? Because if you do, let's get [on] with it. But I will never love you again. I'm done.' "

"He cried. And he never hit anybody again. It was over. And then we started talking. He would talk to me. He stopped hitting... and we became very close," Stone insisted.
