Healthcare consortium Kaiser Permanente has reached a $46 million settlement in a data privacy case alleging patient information was breached through their website and mobile apps.

Multiple cases were consolidated into a class-action lawsuit in December 2024, and the court ordered the preliminary approval of the settlement in December 2025.

Here's what you .

13 million members owed

Kaiser Permanente has denied any claims that it misused patient data, but agreed to the privacy breach settlement “to end the burden, expense, and uncertainty of further litigation," according to the settlement website.

The suits allege Kaiser used a third-party tracking code on their websites and apps to share data with companies like Google, Meta, Microsoft and X. Data included IP addresses, names, searches, medical histories and internal communications.

The settlement applies to the 13 million Kaiser Permanente members in California, Colorado, Georgia, Hawaii, Maryland, Oregon, Virginia, Washington or Washington, D.C.

If you access the authenticated pages of the official website or mobile apps from November 2017 to May 2024, you may be eligible for financial compensation from the settlement.

How to file a claim

Kaiser members who believe they may be part of the settlement could be owed anywhere from $20 to $40, and can expect to get an email from the healthcare provider outlining how to file a claim.

"If you are a settlement class member (those eligible will be automatically included) and wish to be eligible for a payment from the settlement, you must submit a valid claim form by March 12, 2026," Kaiser said. "Your portion of the Net Settlement Fund will be calculated on a pro rata bases based on the number of other settlement class members who submit valid claim forms and the amount of the Net Settlement Fund that remains after deducting any attorneys' fees, costs and expenses as authorized by the Court."

Members can file a claim by going to the settlement website, choosing menu, then filling out an online claim form.

Members will receive a settlement class member ID, necessary to complete the form, in their email from Kaiser Permanente.
