Jamie Campbell Bower is sharing his foiled *Stranger Things* finale pitch that wouldâve seen Vecna/Henry Creel reconnect with a familiar face. **
While visiting *The Tonight Show* on Tuesday, the 37-year-old actor explained that he tried to squeeze in a brief moment in which Henry spoke with his high school classmate Joyce (Winona Ryder) prior to her chopping his head off, but that it just didnât work. **
âI wanted to try and convey the words, âPlease donât,ââ Bower explained. âI donât know if anybody here has seen *The First Shadow* â which is the play that theyâve done of *Stranger Things* and the Henry Creel backstory â and, obviously, Henry and Joyce, within that, have met each other.â

*The First Shadow *follows Henry (Louis McCartney) as he grapples with his increasingly dangerous powers and starting his freshman year at Hawkins High. Itâs there that he meets Joyce, as well as Hopper and Bob Newby. **
Joyce and Vecnaâs high school days are also briefly depicted in season 5 of *Stranger Things*, when Max (Sadie Sink) and Holly (Nell Fisher) wade through Henryâs memories and spot Joyce handing out flyers for the school's theater production of *Oklahoma*.

Itâs that connection that Bower wanted to play upon in the final moments before Joyce enacts her fury upon him in the finale. **
âSo when she walks up to him, I felt like, in that moment, that the humanity could come through a little bit more,â he said. âAnd that we could just reintroduce that level of potential⊠maybe he could be saved, at that point.â **
Bower, who recently made his Broadway debut in *The First Shadow*, explained that heâd previously pitched ideas for the show that were included in the final cut. **
âWhen we were doing season 4, thereâs a bit where Eleven turns Vecna around â itâs when weâre in the Snow Ball â and she says, âHi.â And just before that, I growl,â he said. âWe were in ADR and I was like, âIt looks like Iâm saying the word âyou.â Can I add that in ADR?â ⊠So we tried it and it worked, and it was great.â **
However, it didnât have the same effect this time around. âWe get to ADR for season 5, Iâm gurgling and Iâm like, âI remember all I wanted to say was, âplease donât!ââ And we try it and it just didnât work,â he said. âIt didnât land. But the emotion is there!â
âSo you tried âplease donât?ââ Host Jimmy Fallon asked, to which Bower responded, âI tried it, yeah. It wasnât good.â **
When Fallon asked if the line just âdidnât fit the character,â Bower simply replied, âNo.â
*Stranger Things* co-creators Ross Duffer told *Variety* that he was "sure" there was a moment in the 18-month time jump between seasons 4 and 5 in which Joyce and Hopper realized that Vecna was actually the quiet kid from their theater program.
"We had a walk a fine line with the play â we donât want to frustrate, because so much of our audience is unable to see it," he explained. "To have them start talking about it would have been confusing in the context of someone who hasnât seen the play. But Iâm sure they did have that conversation."Â **
