TAIPEI, June 4 (Reuters) - China should "acknowledge the ‌truth" about what ‌happened 37 years ago ​on Beijing's Tiananmen Square, Taiwan President Lai Ching-te said ‌on Thursday ⁠on the anniversary of an ⁠event Beijing treats as taboo.

"I sincerely ​hope that ​China ​can face ‌up to the June 4 incident of 37 years ago, acknowledge the truth, ‌soothe the ​pain, and ​open ​the door ‌to reconciliation and dialogue," ​Lai ​said in a post on his ​Facebook ‌page.
