The deadline to claim a $5,000 Avis Car Rental reimbursement settlement linked to a 2024 security incident is here.
Avis experienced a security incident in August 2024 involving customer names, driver's license information, credit card numbers and expiration dates, birthdates, and phone numbers, according to the settlement website for the class action lawsuit. Avis has denied any wrongdoing in the breach, but is paying affected customers up to $5,000 for out-of-pocket expenses.
With the June 21 settlement deadline approaching, here's what to know, including who is eligible to claim.

Compensation for out-of-pocket loss: Customers who suffered a proven monetary loss may receive reimbursement of up to $5,000.
Pro rata cash payment: All eligible customers may make a cash payment claim, regardless of whether they experienced out-of-pocket loss. These payments will be evenly distributed after payment of out-of-pocket loss, notice, and administration fees
Who qualifies for the Avis settlement payout?
Avis Car Rental customers whose private information was compromised during the security incident from Aug. 3, 2024, to Aug. 6, 2024, are eligible for a payout, according to the settlement website. Customers must be U.S. residents.
How to claim the Avis settlement payout
Eligible customers must submit a claim form online by Sunday, June 21, or, if mailed, the claim must be postmarked no later than June 21, the settlement website states. The online submission form is available at avisdatasecuritysettlement.com/submit-claim.
Customers may also take several other actions regarding the settlement:
Do nothing to give up rights to sue and not receive any money.
Exclude from settlement, which allows a customer to sue Avis regarding the claims in the lawsuit. Exclusions must be postmarked no later than May 22.
File an objection, explaining to the court why the settlement should not be approved. Objections must be postmarked no later than May 22.
Attend the hearing to speak to the court at a customer's own expense. The final hearing is on July 28.
